Perspectives, 1922-1955.

The John Gaw Meem Perspectives consists of perspectives, renderings, and presentation drawings of elevations and floor plans. Drawings of residences, churches, school buildings, and commercial structures are included, many of them fashioned in the Pueblo revival and territorial styles that are popular in the Southwest. Among the projects are buildings for the University of New Mexico campus. The majority of the projects represented in the collection are for buidings in New Mexico, but a few are located out of the state. The perspectives were drawn by John Gaw Meem, Edward O. Holien, Truman J. Mathews, John W. McHugh, Martin L. Beck, H.S. Goodwin, and Gordon F. Street, among others.

The University of New Mexico was established by the Legislative Assembly of the Territory of New Mexico in 1889. It was to be located in Albuquerque. Elias Stover was appointed the first president. The new institution opened in rented rooms as a summer normal school, June 15, 1892, beginning regular instruction on September 21st in the first building erected on the campus.
